What Powers the 2021 Toyota Highlander?
There is one gas engine that powers the 2021 Toyota Highlander, and, frankly, that's all it needs. The Highlander is driven by a 3.5L V6 that kicks out 295 horsepower and 263 lb-ft of torque. The LE, XLE, Limited, and, Platinum trims all have the option of a hybrid engine. This combines the power of a 2.5L I-4 cylinder engine with electric motors. This setup is good for 243 horsepower. Front-wheel drive is standard across the lineup, while all-wheel drive is an available option. For fuel economy, the gas engines with front-wheel drive get a combined estimated average of 24 MPG while the AWD variants get 23 MPG combined. The Highlander Hybrid variants get a combined average of 34 MPG on the front-wheel-drive models, while the AWD gets 33 MPG.
2021 Toyota Highlander Trim Levels and Features

The L trim kicks things off with LED projector headlights, tri-zone automatic climate control, and an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. The XLE trim tacks on even more features like simulated leather upholstery, heated front seats, second-row captain's chairs, and a powered moonroof. The XSE adds a more sporty front end, sport-tuned suspension, 20-inch alloy wheels, twin-tip exhaust, ambient cabin lighting, and black roof rails.
